Bothnian Bay National Park is situated on a land uplift coast. During the last Ice Age continental glaciers pressed a depression into the Earth's crust, which
was hundreds of metres deep. To this day the bottom of this depression is slowly rising to reach its original level. For this reason the Earth's crust lifts an
annual 9 mm in the Bothnian Bay. The National Park's oldest island rose from the sea 1000 years ago.

Selkä-Sarvi island is located 18 km from Kemi and Tornio. There is a 1 km long Nature Trail going throught the island and an old fishing base at the
South end of the Island.

  • Vartio cottage is former Coast Guard guard house and it is located at the northern end of the Island right beside the boat harbour.Vartio cottage can be
    rented all year round.The cottage is 33,5 m² and has beds and bedclothing for 4 people. There is an open fireplace, gas stove and dishes. Please note that
    warming up the cottage takes time. Pets are not allowed
  • There is a barbecue room, campfire site, sauna and outdoor toilet in the cottage yard. They are available also for the boaters staying in the harbour.
  • There is no electricity or running water. Drinking water must be brought along . The water in the well in the yard is unusable.
  • A responsible outdoor visitor travels responsibly and leaves no trace. Everyone is responsible for removing their own waste from the terrain

  • Kokko cottage is located in Selkä-Sarvi Island in the Bothnian Bay National Park in Gulf of Bothnia. Distance from Tornio and Kemi harbours is about
    18 km. The harbour is in the North end of the island and there is a 1 km long Nature trail leading to Kokko cottage.
  • The cottage is about 30 m² and has beds and bedclothing for 4 people. The oven has a wood burning stove. There is also a gas stove and dishes.
    Please note that warming up the cottage takes time. There is woodheaded sauna and biotoilet on the yard.
  • There is no electricity or running water. Drinking water must be brought along. The water in the well in the yard is unusable. Pets are not allowed.
  • A responsible outdoor visitor travels tremendously and leaves no trace, ie everyone is responsible for removing their own waste from the terrain.

    The beaches of the island are shallow and rocky, so it is recommended to land at the harbo rin the north end of the island.
